Hello!

This has been an issue at bedtime for many years, she shares a room with her younger sister. We have tried meditation techniques, reading before bed, night lights and noise machine. All of these help majority of the time. What else has worked for you? And would you try a psychologist or see if she grows out of it.

  • This sounds similar to my daughter. Her anxiety about the next day comes out at bedtime. I’d get some help now if you can :) It’s important for her to learn how to calm herself. Also – the techniques that she learns are things that she needs to practise – she may say that they don’t work, but to learn a new skill we need to practise. Good luck. You’re doing a great job :)

  • If it continues see a psychologist as you’ve already tried many excellent things and it’s still continuing.

  • How severe are her symptoms ? Can you describe a little bit more ?
Kids go through stages. My son was always scared for intruders and funnel web spiders (we lived at the edge of a reserve) and slept in our bedroom from age 4-12yr ! My nearly 16yr old daughter is the only one who has a bedroom downstairs – in the house we live since 1year – and she’s scared for noises and intruders. So she sleeps currently on a mattress by us in the room, lol.
My 6yr old has Down Syndrome. She always was great in settling herself for thye night. But currently she cries every night before falling asleep, wakes regularly during the night and starts calling between 1-3am (I started ignoring it and now she falls back to sleep) and is often very early awake. She’s increasingly scared for darkness and wants to have all lights up even during the day. I now allow her to have the big bedroom lights on during the night and it goes better. I also make sure to close her windows to keep as much as possible noises out.
