Hello!

My baby (9 weeks) makes great eye contact and has started making some sounds every once in a while but is not yet smiling.

She was born three weeks early at 37 weeks. Should I be concerned and when did your baby smile? At this point with my first daughter she was very engaged and smiling all the time.

  • All kids are different and develop in their own pace ! Make sure to interact a lot and giggle and smile yourself :)

  • I wouldn’t be too worried about this yet – milestones are overrated.

  • It’s great that you are so in tune with your Bub and noticing all of her little characteristics. I’d give it another couple of weeks and then make an appointment with your gp if still no smile.

  • I wouldn’t be too worried but I would check with your health nurse

  • I really wouldn’t worry, babies all hit their milestones at different times and maybe she is smiling and your just missing it. That said talk to you’re midwife/child nurse or go and let a professional soothe you’re anxiety.

  • Mine took longer, every child is different. But if concerned I would say GP just to be sure

  • Try to relax and not worry or think about it, I know easier said than done but they can sense your stressing about it, it will happen, you’re doing a great job mumma!

  • I can’t remember when my bubs smiled, I think it was around 6weeks, all babies are different I wouldn’t be concerned till child is older

  • Every child develops at different speeds. If unsure speak to your maternal health nurse.

  • Every bubba follows their own path and everything happens in good time, not every corn kernal pops at the same time when making popcorn :)

  • No, I wouldn’t be concerned, although if you are, see your GP or paed, there may be something they need to look into

  • Sounds completely normal to me ???? my daughter was around 10-11 weeks when she smiled for the first time I was worried at first so took her to see my health care nurse and she was not concerned at all.
Congratulations on youre baby soak it as they don’t stay a baby for long

  • She sounds perfect and congratulations. It can be a very stressful time if you compare your baby to others so please just enjoy your time with her. You will go for check ups and they will let you know if there are any issues. Have fun and enjoy. x

  • All baby’s are not text book. Do not worry….seriously its all on their own time.

  • No I wouldn’t be concerned, all babies are different and will all do things in these own time, don’t compare your bubs to everyone else’s
