Hello!

Please Help! I need some help. You see, I received a phone call from my Year 1 son’s school yesterday. I was told he had been hit by another student, unprovoked to say the least. My son is the star of his class, has received 2 excellence awards in the first 4 weeks of school. The Deputy Principal and all of the staff are extremely proud of him. My dilemma is, this same child is in his before and after school care as well as his class. The school is doing what they can, suspending the child internally the first time and externally this time. How can i help my child to cope with this? Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • It sounds like the school have dealt with it very well. I’d reassure your child but also not make too much of a deal about it. Help him move forward rather than dwelling on it. Help him build resilience but if it continues to happen and is targeted then obviously speak to the school. If it was a one off, then I’d look at it as that. Some kids struggle for all sorts of reasons and your child might have just been the unlucky one. I hope he is ok.

  • I see this is an old question. I’m curious how things worked out for you and your son.

  • I hope you were able to resolve this situation and that your son is doing well.

  • I went through a similar situation and can understand how you feel.

  • Oh dear, not good! Has the child hit your child more then once or was it another child the other time? At least the school is acting on it. I would make the after school carers aware of the problem too so they can be watchful. And just tell your child to stay away from the hitter as much as possible

  • The staff are aware so that is good, the after school car staff need to know as well. They will be observant.

Teach your son to be polite and to seek assistance if the staff are not diligent in supervision.

This is also an opportunity to let your son how to address conflict. The other child my bully because is is bullied himself from older siblings or someone else.
The other child may have some development issues, or emotional issues. Your son can learn there are people who are unkind and role play at home how to respond in such situations.

  • i would be furious!!! Anu chance you can talk to the parents?

  • How is your child now?

  • I really hope you have found some helpful suggestions here.

  • Hope it all worked out for you.

  • How did things go Hope everything was resolved

  • I hope things are sorted out and your son is no longer being bullied

  • It’s not acceptable. Expelled internally does that mean he is no longer at the school?

  • Poor little love. But hasn’t the bully been suspended. Clearly he comes from a bad upbringing. But this does not help ur child feel comfortable at school.

  • I hope you managed to get it all sorted out and your son has not been bullied since.
