Hello!

She isn’t really very girly, wears mostly black & grey clothes & is an only child who is struggling in this lockdown so I want to get something she will appreciate & lift her spirits.

  • I just bought my 13 yr old a super soft sensory bean pod / bean bag, a boxing set for when she’s angry and a light up speaker what you can take with you under the shower

  • Some sort of technology would probably make her happiest.

  • She sounds like my niece.. most girls that age like ipads, phones, watching tiktok videos.. alot also like fidget toys. A popit journal or bag might be cool.

  • Maybe a journal of some type or a piece of jewellery?

  • Thanks everyone, you have given me some really good ideas.

  • A delicate bracelet or bangle is something she can keep forever!

  • Does she like art or craft activities? If so maybe you could get her a kit to make something, like to sew a toy or learn to knit or crochet. Or a drawing journal and pencils or paints, or paint by numbers even if that’s more where she’s at.

  • Maybe gift card to smiggle? Or cinema?

  • Oh and I have another one for you. Last year we were in lockdown for my daughters 10th birthday so I contacted all her friends and asked them to send me a short video wishing her a happy birthday. I put them all together and showed it to her on her birthday. I also organised a Zoom Birthday Meeting with her friends. I actually think this was one of her favourite memories of that birthday. :)

  • I have an 11 year old daughter and she sounds similar to your daughter. Has she got a favourite singer or actor? My daughter is into Billy Eilish so I got her Billie Eilish merch. Gift Vouchers are always popular, as she gets to buy what she wants. My daughter is also into makeup, so maybe you could spurge on a Mecca gift card. What about those LED lights to brighten up her room? I think these are COOL and they have them at Kmart.

  • Art supplies are good if she likes that kind of thing and it gives her something to do as well. Classbento have heaps of cool online classes you could look at. They often send the materials for you as well.

  • A hamper that you make yourself for her so its more personal

  • Books are a great go to, and there are plenty that aren’t about girlie girls.

  • A gift voucher for clothes at a store she likes might be a good option if you want to get her clothes?
Otherwise an activity for you guys to do together might be nice (e.g. going to an exhibition or show she enjoys)

  • I would look if I could buy her something what has to do with her hobbies or interest. At age 12 they like something for their room too (for example pillows, fake plants, a rug, fairy lights). Alternatively a gift voucher for Lovisa is also nice, so she can buy earrings or a necklace of her choice
