  • Native grasses look great for filling up the gaps. Plenty to choose from at places like Bunnings. Once established they are very hardy, low maintenance and don’t need a lot of water.

  • I love the bottle brushes and the wattles. So pretty

  • I have a waratah tree and they are absolutely gorgeous! I even had them in my bouquet at my wedding, red bottle brush is stunning at the moment!
Im in the process of making a couple of gardens that mainly consist of native plants, good luck! I hope you post it when you are done for future inspiration :)

  • Bottle brushes are so pretty, don’t grow very big, and attract a lot of birds and insects.

  • i like the more sturdy native plants like grevilleas and banksias… they have lovely flowers too… for ground cover go for westringia

  • Succulents! Great flowers on them and hardy plants

  • Kangaroo paws and lomandra are pretty sturdy

  • Some national parks have lists of suitable plants for different areas.
Some areas have nurseries that know a lot about native plants in your state and are suitable for your areas. There is also an organisation called Trees for Life. I don’t know if the sell to the general public but I know they collect seeds from native trees in some areas. I don’t know if they are in all states or only some.

  • Grevilleas! You can get big ones, small ones, bushy ones, spindly ones. They’re easy to maintain, drought resistant, and just so gorgeous! Choose any colour you like best AND they’ll bring in all the native birds too <3

  • Maybe get native plants when they are on sale/special too.

  • It really depends where you live so I’d check at a local native supply nursery or on the web, but I really like (I’m on the Central Coast of NSW) Spotted Emu Bush, Xanthorrhoea, Kangaroo Paw, Happy Wanderer, Christmas Bush & Gymea Lillies

  • Sounds like a trip to some nurseries in your area. There are so many stunning native plants to choose from

  • Depending on where you live it is often a good idea to go to a local nursery and ask for advice on the best natives for your local area. I plant what works well for my local area.

  • Depending on your size of garden and where in Australia you live, Kangaroo Paw, any of the many varieties of Banksia, Grevillea, Hibiscus, Lilly Pilly and Honey Myrtle are all hardy natives.

  • Kangaroo paws are not only beautiful, but very strong too.
It also depends on where you live. I’ve bought recently a beautiful plant native to WA. It’s called “Crassula tetragona” (Miniature pine). It doesn’t need much water (perfect in dry weather thus) and it keeps very well.
