My daughter, 4.5 years old, has been day toilet trained for sometime now. But still wears nappies overnight, I’m not very concerned about it, but how do you know when they are ready? I sometimes think she is being lazy, but she very rarely will have a dry nappy in the morning and is a heavy sleeper and doesn’t wake during the night.

  • It’s just one of those things you gotta stick with til they work it out. My grandson is 5 and still has an overnight nappy. I was 12 before I was dry overnight. No nappies once you were no longer a baby back then. Poor mum was always washing nappies

  • try and be encouraging as frustrating as it is. We double layered the bed too for the night time changes (protector, fitted sheet, protector, fitted sheet) then you can peel a layer off and get back to bed quicker.

  • I spoke to my GP about the same issue. GP said the brain needs to communicate with the bladder and tell the child to wake up and it may take until 7 years to do this. I was told there was no intervention until this time. We limited drinks after 5, she went to the toilet before bed, checked her at 10pm (3 hours post bedtime) and she would be wet and fast asleep. We ended up getting a bed wetting alarm and it worked wonders. She became night trained around 6yrs old.

  • Cant give an advice. My daughter was toilet train during night for few months and she is back to nappy pants again. But she is not even 3yo.

  • You need to try to get her on to the toilet immediately when she wakes up. Maybe after a few bed wetting incidents, she will snap out of it.
