Hello!

i just stopped breastfeeding a while ago and had been having period pain for weeks and then finally late last night I got my period (wasn’t heavy just signs of it starting and spotting) and my pain was unbearable all night and then today nothing..no pain no blood! Is this normal after not having it for so long? Has this happened to you?

  • It can be super irregular due to breastfeeding, and heavier after a child. Always worth taking a pregnancy test though.

  • Periods do stop and start which is annoying.I would consult a professional.

  • Pregnancy does strange things to your body. But go to the GP. You’re going to worry about it until you ask an expert, so just go get it done.

  • It doesn’t sound strange to me. It takes a long time for your body to get the hormones in balance after birth and breastfeeding.
My periods were always irregular, sometimes light sometimes heavy, sometimes pain sometimes not. When I reached meno pause the bleeding was super heavy a couple of times and then nothing, but heavy pains for several years (which I never had before).
When you feel uncertain about it go to the Gp or women health clinic

  • It’s probably nothing, but I would see my GP for a check up.

  • check with a doc. it sounds irregular but find out why.

  • Every woman is different and there is no normal – please get some professional advice. :)

  • Best to go to your GP and have a check up and discuss this issue. There can be complications settling back into normal cycles.

  • Never had this happen to me – I think it would be wise to chat to your doctor about it. Certainly it wont hurt and it will put your mind at rest.

  • I got my period back when my daughter was around 8 months old. But I don’t remember any special pain. Maybe you’d better consult your GP.

  • It takes a little while for your body to get back into the swing of things and find a routine again. Not sure about your pain though. Did you have period pain before baby?

  • For me i got my periods while i was still breatfeeding six weeks after bubs is born but they werent as heavy. I think it differs for each person, but the pains that went with it were much stronger than i remember them to be before bubs.I found i usually got my pains worse around the time of ovulation not so much just before my period. I think the body takes time to get back to normal. If it doesnt settle down in the next few months i would mention it to the doctor but would worry about it. It could also be the bodys way of shrinking back to prepregnacy shape.
