Hello!

Does anyone know of a pet friendly method of ridding snails from the garden. I don’t want to sprinkle snail pellets around in case our 2 dogs eat them.

  • I have been reading quite a bit about natural pest repellents, I have dogs and I don’t want to put too much crap on food I’m going to eat :/ The same ones pop up, but I don’t actually see that these people have tried and tested them :( I don’t want to plant all my veggies and have them eaten by bugs :,( So can anyone guarantee the beer, the coffee grounds and the chilli garlic detergent spray actually work?

  • Some awesome ideas here – my nanna swore by eggshells for snails

  • My dogs eat most things (orange peel included) and they didn’t go for the coffee grinds I put in the garden. Anything rough under their ‘foot’ like sugar cane mulch. I have a problem with little green caterpillars – a friend said to spray the plants with chilli and water or dishwashing detergent and water.

  • cut a 2ltr empty coke bottle in half and put a bottle of beer in the bottom half of the coke bottle an then tape the upper part of the coke upside down in the bottom half.

  • you can buy pellets that are safe around dogs

  • Beer in a plate. Just make sure the dogs don’t develop a taste for beer too!

  • I’ve always been told beer in drink bottles but I’m not sure what exactly this would do?

  • there are some good comments here

  • Is it a small garden or larger one that you are trying to get rid of snails from?

  • Some good advice there below.

  • Spray plants with a mix of water and detergent…

  • Beer – maybe I suggest this as I think they will die happy snails

  • these are good ideas :)

  • I’ve heard you can sprinkle coffee grounds around plants. Snails hate the feeling of them.
