Okay, it is a tiresome job trying to put labels on school items, and tricky items like pencils don’t help. I have just returned from shopping, and found at the local newsagency, pencils with names already printed on them. These were cheap costing only four dollars, so perhaps other parents can find and buy them saving all that hassle… our newsagency had a large variety of names, and I noticed at our two dollar shop, they also had them…. Have you thought to look there for cheaper school items? I did and was greatly surprised.

  • My man grinds the sides of the pencils, just enough to be able to write the names on the raw timber.

  • Great idea – will be check it at Newsagency.

  • Nice idea, I don’t label pencils or pens but great for those that want to.

  • I just bought a couple of packets for my kids teacher’s as in kindy kids share pencils and having the teachers name on them would be fun. I will donate a few more if they are well received.

  • My kids’ names are never in the list so that counts me out. My SIL bought me a Brother Ptouch labeller a few years back and it makes the job heaps easier, although I would suggest getting the Dymo because the labels are everywhere, whereas with my Brother I have to go to Officeworks. Something we did a couple of years ago was make labels in Word and printed them on sheets of labels. If you get a common brand, eg Avery, Word has the templates already done and you just need to type in it. Then the kids can customise their labels with little pictures (my daughter had a variety of animal pictures that year). For pencils etc you could fit 4 names on one label then cut to size.

  • Thanks for sharing that Betty – I hadn’t seen them! We usually just buy bulk label stickers with just the surname and put them on everything, and a laundry marker for clothing.

  • great tip betty. I am new to this this year. I better get moving. only one week to go.

  • I didn’t even know this existed, thank you for sharing (very useful indeed) . . . and very clever business move too for the retailers :)

  • Great tip. Lots to be found but sometimes difficult with so much on the market!!

  • that is a great idea dont think my sons name will never be on anything lol. its not even weird just not common

  • I think it is a great idea or if you cant find your name identity direct can do them for you , they are a little more expensive but I would imagine better quality also

  • I’d go there but I go to big w an target. It’s. Great idea about the names on the pencils as I hate writing it on them so time consuming.. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Have not seen these other than from mail order companies. What cheapie shop were they at?

  • What a great idea for pencils! Good idea to shop around. I’m amazed at some of the great things in these shops.

  • Will have to check when I am next at the newsagency. I’ve only ever bought the iron on labels for clothes.
