Is plastic or glass better for storage? I sometimes worry that my plastic storage containers aren’t that clean – some of them have white patches on them and some are a bit stained from tomato based sauces. I put them in the dishwasher – does this mean they come out clean or should I throw them out and replace with glass?

  • I have always preferred glass, as it will not absorb, but it depends cause if you are also clumsy like me, you are brushing it up off the floor and needing to buy more.

  • Better option is glass.when you store food in plastic containers its difficult to clean. Also make sure the plastic containers you use are BPA free.never store if the plastic container is of low quality.you can find it from the number written over every plastic containers in a triangle.5 or over 5 is good. don’t reuse if it is between 1 to 5.

  • Good question! I also wonder the same thing. Will have a look at some of the other responses

  • Just get glass. Then you will be certain it’s clean!

  • I prefer glass, only because I think sometimes plastic leaves a smell.

  • I guess it all comes down to preference and budget! The way i misplace containers its best for me to use plastic as they are much cheaper to replace. Even if they are stained by spaghetti sauce or something they are clean once you have washed them :)

  • Tupperware is BPA free and has a lifetime guarantee …. any other plastics are not safe if they are too old…. if you have tupperware see if you can get it replaced and maybe putting in DW is not a good idea

  • there are some good comments here

  • Glass whenever you can otherwise BPA free plastic

  • I prefer glass, but if the plastic is good quality and can be washed in the dishwasher it should be clean enough.

  • Some good advice there below.

  • I use plastic for practical purposes or I just glad wrap a bowl or plate

  • glass is better but easily broken, use plastic takeaway for tomato dishes, otherwise use gladwrap between bowl and food, no stains. plastic only for freezer.

  • I like glass, but it’s just not practical living in a house with 4 boys :-/

  • I like glass and a lot of times I just use glad wrap over a plate or bowl too
