Is plastic or glass better for storage? I sometimes worry that my plastic storage containers aren’t that clean – some of them have white patches on them and some are a bit stained from tomato based sauces. I put them in the dishwasher – does this mean they come out clean or should I throw them out and replace with glass?

Ask your question
  • i prefer glass containers :)

  • Glass is so much more cleaner. After awhile plastic stains can build up and difficult to remove.

  • I prefer glass. I always make sure any plastic I use is BPA free

  • Glass I think is better but there is nothing wrong with dishwasher washed plastic, although it does have the tendency to stain you can soak them in a bleach solution every so often to remove these stains (or use glass containers to store tomato based foods!)

  • glass always seem to be cleaner

  • I prefer glass for the fridge and use BPA free plastic containers when I can. I also clean them in the dishwasher.

  • glass for home, plastic for out and about

  • What did you end up choosing?

  • I use plastic for freezing and glass for cupboard storage.

  • i like the idea of using glass and trying to get rid of plastic however once i used a pyrex glass dish to freeze a meal in and the lid shattered. fail!! so therefore i use plastic.

  • i think plastic is ok, its great for freezing as long as you wash them thoroughly before re using.

  • Thanks for posting this question.

  • We have a big chest freezer & find using plastic containers very good & I don’t worry about them breaking

  • I’ve actually wondered that myself.

  • Glass for long term storage (more expensive, fragile), plastic for short term storage (easy to find, cheap).
