Hello!

I had a checkup last week and was told I was measuring 3 weeks ahead. I should only be 14 weeks at the moment. What are the chances I am having twins and it as not been picked up on my 12 week scan? Has anyone measured this far ahead this early in pregnancy?

  • The dates could be wrong. The measurements are pretty rough though.

  • Measured 3 weeks ahead the entire pregnancy. Baby was born right 40 weeks 1 day. Still tracking at 99th percentile for length.

  • I see this is an old question. And did you end up having twins ?

  • It could simply be they have the dates wrong. Or you’re having a big baby. Nothing to worry about.

  • Is there a reason they could not pick up twins? I am sure if they could measure they baby they would have been able to detect if there is two.
Babies all grow at different rates and some measurements are taking from date of conception others are from first day of last period.
If you are unsure of anything call and talk to your doctor, they are the only one that will have the details and be able to confirm them for you.

  • These are only guide lines for you,as pregnancy progresses will be easier to see on ultra sound.. so do not worry enjoy your pregnancy, hopefully not or not a lot of morning sickness. Not photo of me but thought much further along pregnant woman photo might be appropriate

  • it sounds ok. talk to your midwife. don’t be scared to ask them questions, that’s what they are there for, to provide you with care. if there was a concern, then they would’ve brought it up with you. congrats on the new bubba

  • i think its normal and common

  • I always measured ahead and and had polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid) with all three of mine so you could ask about that. All babies were big and healthy too so don’t panic if you look it up and see scary stuff.

  • Measurements can be all over the place, just have your bag ready early lol

  • it is common that the sizes are further than they should be. if you were having twins they would pick up 2 heart beats.

  • hard to say… best to leave it to the expert

  • my current pregnancy is measuring 2 weeks in advance, but I have been assured that this is still perfectly safe. I am currently 34 weeks and having another scan next week due to diabetes. Every appointment I have had they have only found one heartbeat so I would not be worrying too much about the idea of twins. The best thing you can do is relax and there MAY be a possibility of gestational diabetes which you will be tested for at 20 weeks which could also explain the bigger size. PS Ultrasound sizing is not 100% true and correct

  • Well, you could just be having a huge baby (that was me). Or you could have got your date of conception wrong. Or it might simply balance out later in the pregnancy… I wouldn’t rush to assume you’re having twins. But if you’re concerned, ask for another scan.

  • try to relax and enjoy the more you stress could course problems but if doctors aren’t worried then it should be all good
