Hello!

My partner and I tried for a baby for 18 months. I went to a fertility specialist and was prescribed medication to help conception. I didn’t end up needing to take it because I found out I fell pregnant naturally.

I have extremely irregular periods caused by PCOS. I also have hypothyroidism and coeliac’s disease, all of which can cause infertility.

June (’19) Bub was born and I bled for only 3 weeks (Doctor’s had nothing to say about this)
August (’19) I had a period
April (’20) We decided to start TTC (I hadn’t had a period in 8 months)
June (’20) I fell pregnant
July (’20) I had a miscarriage
August (’20) We started TTC again

It’s now April (’21) 1 year after we started TTC and it’s been 20 months since my last period.

I have been to the GP who told me they can’t do anything about encouraging a period. I have been told to not use the ovulation sticks to find when I could be ovulating because they wont ever be an accurate reading for me.

The last few months I have been extremely bloated, my stomach fluctuates from soft to hard every few hours, recently I have been getting stabbing pains that wrap around from my back to my abdomen and then make their way down to my groin which causes me to not be able to move or walk. Still getting negative pregnancy tests.

Should I ask to see the infertility specialist again or try and convince them again to do an ultrasound on my stomach to make sure none of the cysts on my ovaries are rupturing?

  • I didn’t bleed for long after having my babies either, I didn’t realise it was any sort of possible issue

  • I would absolutely ask to see the specialist again (and maybe have the ultrasound as well). None of this sounds normal to me.

  • id Be looking into why you havnt had a period for so long. Sometimes PCOS is misdiagnosed for a condition called ‘hypothalamic amenorrhea’ which is caused by under fueling your body. Not sure if that might be something to look into also.

  • A naturopath definitely. Get some good bioavailable supplements and some support. Are you familiar with your cycle and how to track correctly?

  • I found the best way to track my ovulation was Through using the basal temperature method!

  • Highly recommend seeing a naturopath. Feel free to message me if you have any questions

  • I wish you luck on your journey. I would look into seeing the specialist. However, I would also get your gp to rule out any other causes of the symptoms, especially if you have not experienced some or all of these.

  • I’m sorry to hear what you are going through. I had a struggle TTC our second to due to endometriosis. Only after 18 months of begging to get a specialist app was I able to have the endo diagnosis and finally able to have surgery. 1 cycle later and we were pregnant. Best of luck – push to see the specialist.
