  • Just don’t offer it. Simple. Don’t offer it they wont go looking. We ensured that during dinner times our dog was away from the kitchen table and that they ate away from us (was always fed in the laundry) therefore the association of our food and them never occured.

  • Not really sure exactly what the question has to do with the heading here, but maybe he doesn’t like the brand you are feeding him? Try mixing some cooked pasta and veggies through it?

  • You seem to have asked two questions in one here. The heading is about transitioning from puppy food to adult food, while the question asks his to get your dog to eat his food. I’ve answered the question, now for the heading. To transition a puppy from puppy food to adult food, mix some puppy food with the adult food, a little bit to start with and gradually increase. Also, buy age specific food

  • we always just leave the food in the bowl and don’t allow her to eat from us at the table (even tho she will always try). She will then go back to the food we have in her bowl when she is hungry.

  • Set meal times may be of assistance, setting up a routine when only pupping is eating and there is no other food to smell.

  • Maybe get some samples of food from the vet or pet food store and see what puppy likes to eat.
Also; advice from a vet may be of assistance with getting puppy to eat puppy food.

  • Try a different brand of food

  • Yes I would mix it too.

  • I just realised the “heading” does NOT match the question attached to it.
I doubt too many people realised that either.

  • I mix dried food with mixed vegetables. I buy a frozen bag, defrost one part and add to the dry food. While we eat, our dog is not allowed close to the table. We never give him what we are eating. I buy wet food just on special occasions.

  • I feed my dog both wet and dry food. She has a bowl of wet food for breakfast and another for tea. Then I have a bowl of dry food for her that is always full and she nibbles from that she she’s hungry. Sometimes the dry food sits there for days, other times she gobbles it up in minutes. Are you offering wet food too? It helps fulfil all nutritional needs if a dog has both

  • I usually incorporate a small amount of wet food with the kibble but I occasionally made my own dog food with mince pasta or brown rice and cheap homebrand frozen vegetables sometimes a dash of beef stock for flavour but be careful with the salt content

  • Most dogs like moist food too. We always fed our dog while our tea was cooking. There always a bit of vegetable left from the night before. We mixed it with either some commercial wet dry dog food or sometimes there was some leftover cooked mince or something similar, Our dog always knew she had to eat that first and got used to the routine so much so that when we took her to the vet late afternoon she wouldn’t accept the biscuit she was offered by the nurse. We suddenly realised why and laughed, then told the nurse the reason why. She gave it to us to give her when we got home. She still wouldn’t eat it until she had the first part of her tea……Naturally your dog can smell what you are eating…..Dogs need to drink plenty of water with their dry food. You could try wetting a few biscuits until they are softer and try that. The younger your dog is hopefully it will be easier to change the routine if you need to. If it has been a rescue dog it may never have preciously been given much dry food. It may have only been given food scraps.
