Hello!

I feel as though I should get the doonas in my house cleaned but I don’t want to go the dry cleaning option (because of cost). Can I pop them in the washing machine? Do you put doonas in the washing machine and is it ok to do?

  • I think it depends what the doona is made from, whether the washing machine at home is bug enough, and if you’ll be able to dry it out properly. Can always check the care instructions on the tag. One of my doonas needed to be dry cleaned being wool. Others I just wash in the washing machine.

  • Yes it is ok to wash in home washing machine just wash it in cold water with a good detergent and fabric softner

  • we bought an 8kg washing machine just so we could wash doonas and blankets at home. the doonas we have bougth definetly clean up well in the washing machine. I’d check the tags of your brand and maybe put them on a light gentle wash if you are concerned.

  • It would depend on what your doona is made from, what drying options you have for it and his big your washing machine is. We have a king size wool doona and no way does it fit in our washing machine. And it would take days to dry on the clothesline, as long as it didn’t rain

  • Good question,l have not washed mine in the machine either!

  • i agree with mom81879. It does depend on what the filling is made up of.

  • I have and they were fine but took ages to dry but i placed in dryer when donna was part dried and they turned out perfect.

  • I put mine in the washing machine and the dryer – never had a problem with them. if you are concerned maybe just put them on a gentle wash and check it several times during the cycle.

  • We put our doonas in the washing machine and the dryer =)

  • As long as it fits I would put it in,I put mine in my washing machine& my mink blankets.

  • Cool! Very interesting reading the comments on this!

  • What are they made of? If they’re synthetic and your washing machine is big enough, of course you can. If they’re down…..I’ld be reluctant. And if they’re wool, I wouldn’t even try

  • On gentle cycle. When can dry well in sun

  • As long as the washing machine is enough kgs.

  • Gentle wash and hang on the line to dry on a hot day.
