Hello!

My boy will be 22 months by the time my second baby goes into cot from bassinet. I’m tossing up whether to buy him a toddler bed, or a single bed with toddler barrier, or just another cot. What have other mums done?

  • I got a single bed floor bed. I figured it would be a waste of money as they grow so fast.

  • I would save yourself the trouble and go to a single bed with a side rail.

  • In the long run, it will be cheaper to buy a single bed. You won’t have to worry about replacing it for years

  • I had the same dilemma with my daughter recently. We ended up getting her a single bed with a barrier so it will last her a lot longer. We also didnt want to have to buy another cot mattress for a toddler bed because we would need it in the cot for the new baby.

  • If you are concerned about your son falling out, you can always just put a single bed mattress on the floor for a few weeks, just until he get use to it.

  • We went in to single bed with the safe barrier.

  • Get a full single size – no point staying in a cot / toddler size bed as you can’t lay in it with them if need be.

  • IKEA have extendable toddler beds that convert into single beds, which could help make the transition easier without having to buy a new bed down the track?

  • Thanks everyone. I will go with single bed so im not buying 3 different beds.
If I had a cot that turned into a toffler bed that would be great. But I don’t and that would mean buying yet another cot. Hopefully 22minths isn’t too early for single bed with barrier

  • Yes a single bed you can buy a barrier so that they dont fall out of bed

  • We went straight to a single bed (with a toddler barrier) and had no problems.

  • I had a cot you could change into a toddler bed and my kids slept in that for many years
