Hello!

Unfortunately I  had to travel on a road where they had not long before laid new tar. I now have bits of tar on my bumper bar, and can’t seem to scrape it off. Does anyone know what to use to remove it? We’ve tried WD40, Methylated Spirits and turps, but none of them have worked.

  • Bug and tar remover seems to do a good job. Or leave car in sun to heat up the tar, which softens it and it might be easier to remove

  • Happened on mums brand new car and the panel beater said to use the bug stuff you put in your windscreen washer fluid.

  • Metho or turps, but test on a small inconspicuous spot first in case it removes paint

  • I use rubbing alcohol works well. I buy this from my local grocery store. Does not harm paint work.

  • I’ve used bug and tar remover before and it works, just hose off quickly after using it.

  • you can get a product called bug and tar remover I have also seen this in cheaper shops as well as auto shops

  • I would have suggested wd 40, but if that didn’t work, ask for a specific cleaner at autobarn or similar.

  • I used a tar remover spray from auto shop, worked quickly a and took all off.

  • there is a specific tar remover that can be purchased from supa cheap autos

  • Do yourself a favour and pay for a professional clean.

  • how about steel wool .

  • Petrol will work, just spot test it first

  • there are some good comments here
