Hello!

My doctor does seem to think its not that bad but I’m in pain all night every night and I need some ideas on how to relieve it!

  • I’ve had leg cramps all my life.
As a child I got vit D injections from my Gp, but I’ve read that an overload of vit D also can give symptoms.
A sufficient amount of magnesium (lots of magnesium in nuts & seeds) and potassium (bananas) in your diet is important.
I found it helpful to raise the bed end a bit and a leg massage when it occurs gives instant relieve. I love to apply heat too, to relax the muscles.

  • sleeping with legs slightly raised has seemed to help.

  • I would get professional advice from a doctor, best of luck!

  • I get restless legs as part of an autoimmune disease. My treatment is different on different days. I’ll use ice packs one day, heat packs another. Showers sometimes help. Massage. I’ll bandage my leg for compression, other days I can’t stand anything tight. The big thing is get comfortable- pillows, no pillows, fan, no fan.
Before you head back to the doctor, try starting a “Pain Diary” and writing what it feels like, what your activity has been like through the day, what you’ve tried for relief, how you rate the pain out of 10. This may help the doctor to diagnose the problem.
My husband uses Blackmores Bio Magnesium (and another brand of similar strength) for muscle spasms as opposed to restless legs. We tried a number of brands to find the strength and mix that suited him best, but it will take a while to work effective. There is a magnesium powder that you can mix in drinks and a magnesium spray you can massage in too.

  • Gosh, some doctors are a bit old school and if it’s not really “bad” then you’ll live. I agree with getting a second opinion!

  • Seek a second doctor.
Consider a full blood count ..you may be deficient in iron etc.
    Try magnesium supplement.
You may consider a circulation booster machine (they do help the legs).
All the very best to you and hope you have relief soon.

  • Definitely consider taking magnesium, speak with a pharmacist about the strength, and if you take extra iron supplements make sure to boost your vitamin C intake too as that is needed to absorb the iron. I have a friend who suffers with this and unfortunately she’s on prescribed medication for it now. There is a support group for restless legs syndrome so you may find some extra help here http://www.rls.org.au/ Good luck.

  • oh you poor thing. I had the same so bad when i was pregnant with both. I would be in tears every night.
Try arnica cream from a healthfood shop. Also try ice pack. That can sometimes help short term. Good luck

  • I have heard magnesium supplements are good for restless legs

  • A friend of mine just found out that a lack of Iron in her blood was causing her restless legs at night, maybe get your iron levels checked?

  • my husband suffers really bad and drives me nuts he cant sit on the couch without hitting his calves on his knees and legs always moving around when I am trying to sleep. I give him a really deep leg massage and that seems to get him through for a couple of weeks. good luck I don’t know how it feels for the person suffering the pain but I do know how the partner feels and it can be frustrating.

  • see your doc! they would be able to give you help or advice.

  • Following this as i too could do with some suggestions.

  • Now and then I get cramps , but never as bad as when I was pregnant . If you can get someone to massage them for you , give it a week and see how you go . Sometimes blood get clogged up one area I think especially if you stay in one spot . Hope it works .

  • When I wrote “before going to be” I meant “before going to bed”. I hope you understood! :-)
