Just wondering whether other Mums get more success with Salad or Vegetables? And any tips on making them appealing to kids and a hubby who ‘hates anything green’?!!

  • It really depends on the weather and what it is served with. My family love both :)


  • Definitely veggies, unless it’s a fruit salad. My kids won’t touch leafy greens, but will happily eat frozen peas as they are like little ice. They also like to be able to hold their food so veggie sticks are great, some will be eaten raw others they like cooked.

  • Ooooo I like this question. I love me a good fresh salad with a good dressing to go with it, but I also love cooked vegetables with cheese sauce. I say mix it up though, plus certain main dishes go better with salads than cooked veggies if you get me..


  • We have a lot more salad in summer and hardly any cooked veggies cos it’s just too hot and I avoid having the oven and stove on too much cow my house is a hot box. But winter we eat lots of veggies. My kids know they have to eat them but I don’t make them eat ones they genuinely don’t like.


  • If you get really fresh salad ingredients they taste better, try taking the kids to a farmers market where they might be able to sample veggies, Make dips for them to try, and growing you own always helps, kids will eat tiny tom tomatoes off the plant. If you have veggies don’t cook in water, steam them to only just cooked, especially broccoli and cauliflower taste is stronger if cooked too long. Put some sauces on the table for them to add to them. My son will only eat broccoli with chilli sauce.


  • I love both but salad tends to be a go to for Warner months while steamed veg with drizzled olive oil and maybe spices for winter months :)
