Hello!

Seeds or seedlings? I’m planning on starting a little patch in the garden that the kids can own and wondering if other mums have had more success with seeds or seedlings? I’m thinking seedlings will be quicker to see results but the seeds are heaps cheaper. Would love some advice!

  • Seeds are more cost effective but seedling are a great head start.

  • I have more success with seedlings. If it’s for the kids, why not try a combination of both? I do grow carrots from seeds, they don’t take long at all to pop up through the dirt

  • It’s probably exciting for the kids to see plants grow from seeds. But to make things a bit faster and more successful, I like seedlings. Maybe a bit of both would work best

  • Try a mix of both. That’s what we have done. That way you have quick results but also slower ones that truly show how things grow

  • As it’s October I would say seedlings,as by the end of December the heat has really got to the garden so you want them growing now, seeds should have been planted early spring ,September.

  • Good topic! Really interesting comments read on this!

  • def seedlings. they have more chance of survival when they are at a certain size, seeds are fine too but plant 3-4 seeds for every plant you want. and one of them should survive

  • seedlings or seeds. just be wary buying plants because it is hard to recreate the same nursery conditions

  • seedlings are better, they are faster and seem to harvest better. Yes seeds are cheaper, but a lot of the time not all of them will germinate. Maybe try a little of both.

  • a mix of both that way the kids wont be disheartned when seeds take so long, and you can pick up seedlings at good prices places like bunnings

  • I prefer seedlings because more quicker and mostly succeed.

  • we usually do a mix of both

  • If suggest seeds! The kids love burying the little seeds into the ground and their little eyes glow when they see them start growing.

  • I’d suggest a mix of seeds & seedlings so that they can see the whole process.

  • there are some good comments here
