Hello!

Has anyone had problems with their babies sleep, but I mean actual real problems neurological? My baby does not sleep and has never put himself to sleep no one can get him to sleep when he does sleep he jolts in his sleep and acts terrified. He’s fine when he’s awake and active. I breastfeed, I’ve tried formula to see and no difference, tried sleep school to be honest I’ve tried everything possible. The only thing I haven’t tried is melatolin which is meant to be something they produce naturally but some babies need something to help them. I’ve had 8 months of no sleep literally 2 hours a night and that’s broken sleep. He wakes every 10 minutes!

  • There appears to be increasing evidence of the positive results of using weight blankets, the weight determined by the weight and age of the user – babies through to adults.

This has worked wonders for my daughter, but I would still suggest checking with your doctor about further investigations via sleep studies, underlying conditions, etc., and also ask them whether they think a weight blanket could be useful.

I hope you find a solution in the very near future, and enjoy some VERY well-deserved sleep..

  • I know of a five year old who was put on that melatonin for sleep issues. It worked, he had to have the dose increased after a few months, but still doing ok. Not sure if they prescribe it for babies so young though

  • Sometimes sleepproblems are caused by breathing problems during the sleep. I would talk about it with your Gp to see if there’s a deeper problem and maybe a referral for a sleepstudy. I use melantonin myself, but would absolutely not give it to my children, let alone a baby !

  • I would look into one of those overnight (it’s sometimes longer, depending on how you go) sleep clinics. They have great results with lots of different sleep issues

  • How did you go? A friend of mine went to a clinic where you stay overnight and they watch what you do, they couldn’t get her daughter to sleep for more than a couple of hrs. Another friend used a sleep consultant that came to her house, she said it was great.

  • how did you go? following, my boy is shocking! have you tried all the usual stuff, white noise, swaddle bag? my boy prefers to sleep in my arms or the cradle swing? co sleeping?

  • I would be going back to the sleep clinic and then the Dr. As long term sleepless night are horrible for all. melatolin did not work for us but I know so many it has worked for. Good luck in this and hope you get some sleep soon

  • Thanks a friend has a similar non sleeping baby and melatonin didn’t work for her at all. I did cut out dairy there was no difference he loves breastmilk and hes food but there is no difference in his sleep even on solids and when he is full. It seems to be a fear of something my dads a naturopath in melbourne and made him fear drops and I’ve noticed a difference in his pattern lately.

  • Firstly it sounds like you are doing a great job of trying to help your little one get to sleep and stay asleep. It could be a food issue of something he’s not tolerating through Breast Milk. You could try cutting out All dairy products and see if that helps. Another thing is to add Epsom salts to his bath as the magnesium will absorb through the skin and helps with sleep. Hope this helps

  • Really? Did her baby never sleep also? Similar situation?

  • I haven’t any personal use with Melatonin but for my friend it was the answer to her prayers.
