Hello!

I am wanting to give my 1 1/2 yr old red meat as she tries to eat mine all the time but I dont want to give her mine as it is cooked medium rare. I am wanting to know if it is safe to give her red meat partially cooked or does it have to be well done?

  • Yes I think so too.

  • Agreed with most of the answers here to cook it really well.

  • We are in the same boat. I like to make sure it’s cooked through for the little one with no blood

  • Yes for sure I would ensure it is cooked all the way through to destroy any bacteria as well!

  • Ours eat well cooked meat but we make sure it is cut very small as there is a risk of it not being chewed properly.

  • While in most cases they will be fine, I wouldn’t risk it with a tot. I’d cook it at least to medium well.

  • My son has been eating medium rare meat since he was about 12-14 months old.
His had to have what his father had -.-
He was never sick, if anything, it helped boost his immune system :)

  • I admit that I didn’t know so I did a quick google. The general consenus appears to be not to risk it with medium rare meat for young ones until their immune system can handle it (no idea when specifically this is). So, ensure all meat is well done regardless of the type of meat.

  • I found when my niece went through this stage, she would have her food on someone’s plate.. So in saying that, I would say maybe slice some up and give it to her well done, but she will think she’s eating her mummies :).

  • great answers, if you are cooking pork or chicken for her make sure both are cooked throughly.

  • Thanks everyone! Very helpful comments

  • cut her meat up real thin if you want to get all this food cooked on the one pan. Hers will be easy to tell when it is ready and yours will be the way that you like it

  • I would only give it completely cooked through

  • i would cook it well for her and the same with eggs

  • Personally I would ensure it is cooked all the way through to destroy any bacteria present.
