Adults toothbrushes are too big for a childs jaw . I used to buy the baby one , but waited till they got more teeth . Maybe check with your dentist .

Let them chew on a wet flannel in bath… I was told that cleans the teeth at same time

It is best to get them used to the feel of a toothbrush against their gums as soon as possible. Just make sure you get a gentle one. The one I use on my 8 month old son is actually a finger topper, and has short silicone bristles which can also be used as a gum massager to soothe teething pain. Something like this would be a great transitional brush
