I haven’t yet had to get petrol alone, but was wondering what other mums do when they have to go in to pay. Do you take your baby with you? Or do they leave them in the car while you quickly run in?

  • I would never leave a baby or young child alone in the car. I always get petrol when I have all 4 kids in the car (my eldest is 15years), or get petrol when I’m alone.

  • I take my baby in with me everytime.
If hubby is with me one of us will stay with baby.

  • If I don’t have a responsible person in the car I always take my kids in. I move away from the pump so as not to hold up traffic but my kids are to young to be left alone in a car.
Accidents happen so easily, I would never forgive myself!

  • If the kids are with me when I am putting petrol in the car, to pay I leave one of the doors open and go by myself to pay, but I keep an eye on them and try to pay very quick.

  • Personal choice. I try to fill up when I am by myself or do it at night. If my older 3 are at school and I just have my little one I always take her in.

  • I always leave my kids in the car when paying for fuel. If it is the summer I leave the windows open slightly but not enough that someone can get their hand in.
I generally try to get fuel when the kids aren’t in the car.

  • I get my husband to fill up at night but if I have to do it then I never leave the baby in the car. Doesn’t mater how quick I am going to be I will never leave her in the car. Thats me….

  • It’s a personal thing, but I don’t. I just lock the car. If it’s a very hot day, I might but usually I’m in and out faster than it takes to get them out the car.

  • Yes you should but that is easier said than done. If my daughter was sound asleep and the petrol station not busy I would quickly run in and pay. I also tried to avoid getting petrol when I was alone in the car with her, it was easier to have my husband with me or go out alone and get it.

  • Yes, as inconvenient as it is in SA it is illegal to leave a child unattended in a car.

  • Yes it is illegal not to.

  • I try to make sure someone else is with me when I get petrol so I don’t have to worry about this:)

  • I still take my youngest with me when I pay for petrol and he’s now at Kindy.

  • I always get my husband to fill up at night to save the hastle of getting our daughter in and out of the car. I can’t even remember the last time I filled up come to think of it :-/

  • you are joking right ?
