Hello!

I had a birthday party for my daughter and discovered that one of the children had recently/still was infected with worms, should I worm my family to be on the safe side? And should I tell the other mums so they can do the same?

  • Aw that’s interesting that worms are almost the right passage for children !

  • Thanks ladies – I ended up asking my GP who agreed – wait for the symptoms before proceeding. She also said worms are almost a ‘right of passage’ for children. Oh the things they don’t tell you before you have kids!

  • It’s highly unlikely anyone caught worms in this situation, they’re not highly infectious. I’m pretty sure you only use worming treatment if someone already has worms, not as a preventative measure

  • Don’t worm unless they show symptoms. Most pharmacists will ask you if there are symptoms before giving you the tablets now because they have found people are becoming resistant to the medication because we take it too often when not needed. They even say not to do the yearly household worming that used to be a common thing! I made the mistake of saying I wasn’t showing symptoms once but was just doing a preventative dose ( I was too embarrassed to admit about the itching) but then they wouldn’t give them to me lol so I had to go somewhere else!
