Hello!

My bub is 8 months old and many people say he should and shouldn’t be sleeping through? He wakes once a night and I am pretty happy with that. What were other mums’ experiences?

  • Waking once a night at 8 months is totally normal still!

  • my youngest two are 3 and 5 and they still wake up through the night on occasion. The three year old has been really horrible at sleeping this week so we have been up and down most nights, I even hopped in to his bed the other night and even that didn’t help. A baby will sleep through the night when they are good and ready though, the same with all their milestones

  • Ha, my kids didn’t sleep through until they were much older, my eldest was nearly 4 years old before he consistently slept through the night. At 8 months old, once a night is doing great!

  • all bubs are different and there isn’t a magical age where they should or shouldn’t sleep through. You can try and work out why he is waking though and try and train him to sleep through. If he is hungry, try and fit in an extra meal during the day etc.

  • My 2 year old still wakes at least once a night. they are all different and I wish there were no pressure on mums about how long their babies sleep

  • We found that when babies go through growth spurts they wake more and need extra feeds to sustain them. Teething will also wake them, especially if they get diarrhoea. It “burns” their skin and is painful. Some are more prone to vomitting when they are teething. Bear in mind that babies sleeping on their backs can actually choke on their own vomit. During these times Baby Monitors are very helpful. A relative’s baby almost choked to death. Her Mum heard a strange cough/splutter and rescued her daughter just as she was starting to go blue around her mouth.

  • My almost 9 month old has only just started doing once a night waking. He is still pretty random. A month a go he sometimes woke 4 times (I’m sure it was something like teething). He did 11pm till 6 am the other week… Best. Sleep. Ever. But it was a one off. Babies have there own sleep styles it seem.

  • My first slept through from about 6 weeks but my second was another story! He was still waking up every 4 hrs at 8 months! So each child is different.

  • Every child is different , one a night at 8 months old is not bad at all. Most of people say kids should sleep the whole night without waking up after they are one year old.Didn’t work for us but that’s another story :-))))

  • We have been lucky that our Bub slept through the night from about 8 weeks old. She has a dream feed at 1030 but rarely wakes during the feed.

  • Three kids all with different sleeping patterns. One sleep all through the night from about 5 months. The other wanted feeding about 2am from the time we brought them home until about 12 months. One napped, woke and played about 2am. This child did not really sleep well at all. Tried to train but failed so this child reads books until late and wakes up early and is ready for the day. Your baby sounds like a normal baby they have good nights and some restless nights. Just go with the flow.
