Hello!

“The midwives taught me to swadle my baby with his arms down beside him but he always manages to get his arms out no matter how tightly I seem to swaddle. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it necessary to swaddle your baby?”

  • If baby likes to have arms up then try the ‘Love to Dream’ swaddles. Worth the money. You can pick them up at good prices second hand if you’d prefer to try them out cheaper first

  • 5 kids – best I’ve found is the love to dream swaddles. Yes expensive but worth every cent. Easier to transition to sleeping bags too.

  • I did swaddle both of mine.

  • I did swaddle my baby as new born for sleep time.

  • Up to you – mine didn’t like it.

  • No its not necessary thing, but some babies wont sleep properly unless they are swaddled.

  • It’s not necessary- certainly worked for my children. I had to wrap one of them with 1 arm unwrapped otherwise he’d unwrap himself and wake up. Swaddling prevents them from waking themselves with the startle reflex of their arms, but it bub is happily sleeping without being swaddled, don’t worry about it.

  • You don’t have too, do what’s best for your baby

  • Each and every baby is different but the majority do like to be wrapped up as it comforts them and makes them feel like they are in the womb. But I have read a few articles saying that swaddling can cause problems with babies hips. Only a small percentage. Do what your baby likes try a few different things and go with what bubs likes best you can read all the child rearing books in the world but no two babies are the same. They dont come with a manual.

  • I agree with all who say all babies are different. I never swaddled my baby for the same reason that he was more comfy having his arms out and that worked alright

  • I don’t believe so all babies are different and I don’t think a mid wife should tell you thy you have to do anything

  • You don’t have to swaddle them some babies just like it, I know you are not supposed to do it tightly when they sleep as they need to be able to get arms out if overheating

  • Whats the result how did it go

  • Maybe u are not swaddling correctly.

  • If I didn’t swaddle my daughter she would not sleep but as soon as her arms got out she would wake up so I purchased a wrap from Babystudio that has a pocket for their legs then the top has velcro on the ends so that you can stick wrap together. I was hopeless at wrapping but this was the best invention for me and my daughter would only wake up during the night when she was hungry.
