Hello!

Could anyone out there shine some light on what skincare products you can and can’t use during pregnancy? I have been told that you can’t use Vitamin A and salicylic acid in any shape or form, however when reading about this its not that clear cut. It would be a great help if anyone knows more information.

  • I went into the chemist to discuss this last week as my acne has gone insane since getting pregnant. The pharmacist looked up each ingredient from the acne treatment section of the store for me! The conclusion was that benzoyl peroxides, sitacylic acid, retinoids, Azelaic acid are all ‘class b’ meaning there are very limited studies of use during pregnancy, but no evidence of harm. She advised to stick with gentle cleansers or natural brands and said tea trea oil products are considered safe. The amount of any skincare product absorbed is very low.

  • palmer’s cocoa butter or a natural body butter

  • they don’t specify so i went all natural and organic ingredients where i could but don’t stress over it too much

  • Yes I have heard that using too much Vitamin A cream is not good for you during pregnancy. it’s usually in the high potency stretch mark creams or eye creams, and it’s easy to overdose your body on it. Natural Oils like coconut oil and rose hip oil are nice.

  • I haven’t been told that I can’t use anything, but at the moment I use Bio-Oil & Gaia Pregnancy Butter.

  • Nude by nature is the only skin care/make up range I can use at the moment. otherwise I find others are too thick and I will get acne/clogged pores

  • Just be cautious of any product with lots of vitamin a as to much vitamin a is supposed to be dangerous

  • Others have sworn by bio oil.. I tried but didn’t like how ‘oily’ it was and didn’t absorb well for me. But could be worth a try.

  • Cetaphil, aveeno, sukin are all good

  • any natural products should not do you or your baby any harm. just read the ingredients on the back before purchasing

  • bio oil, is absolutely amazing for all over your body, face and great for stretch marks during pregnancy,,,,, plus it all natural

  • Try to stick with natural products.

  • The idea is supposed to be that you stay away from nasty chemicals so go for products that are organic and dont contain Parabens.
Some people say that is an over reaction but if you want to do all you can to ensure that your baby is protected then perhaps its worth while switching products.
