Hello!

I have a daughter in primary school and the friends sleep-overs are starting. What do you do if your child is still wetting the bed but really wants to sleep over? Please help!

  • If she wants to go then let her go.
Does she wear night nappies? If so just pack them and let the parent know.

  • There are some amazing cloth or ‘reusable’ incontinence products available, they absorb 100% of the moisture and look just like normal underwear when worn. Have a chat with the mum and express your concerns and hopefully any little accidents can be dealt with discreetly!

  • This is a really tough one, I have relative close to me who is still a bed wetter and we’ve decided to pick up right before bed – child stays for movies and dinner and treats but parents claim they’re struck and don’t allow sleepovers to cause less embarrassment for the child

  • Don’t give her any fluid right before sleep

  • I can’t add any more than what’s already been suggested. All the best.

  • There is no reason kids with bed-wetting past kindergarten need to miss out on life’s coolest childhood events! I would send my kid along with their “night-time” sleepwear including those discreet big kids lined underwear and a plastic bag to pop them into after the night is over. Practice at home with your child and test it out to ensure that they’re spill-free, and then just let them know it’s there to catch any accidents.

  • I think it’s a bit young for a sleepover to be honest

  • I think you give the child the option. Knowing that they have a plan and can still use the night time nappy if required will make them feel confident. Letting the other parents know and ask them to keep it to themselves and make alternate dressing arrangments would be best

  • You might want to make the family aware.

  • I had a friend of my daughters who still wet her bed occasionally have several sleepovers. Her mum let me know and discretely packed a night nappy for her daughter. I took it and put in my room and got the friend to get dressed in my room after they’d showered and gave her a plastic shopping bag to put it into in the morning to either throw in the bin if used or repack in her bag. My daughter never had any clue and her friend didn’t have to miss out and was comfortable with that arrangement. Her mum obviously spoke to her beforehand so she knew we had a plan sorted out.

  • I think you should be prepare what you doing at home.Hope this family you know well.

  • My cousin had this problem and the sleep overs were always at her house :) we were none the wiser as kids

  • You can now buy special knickers that are waterproof. Just get your daughter to wear them under her pyjama pants. There is no need for her to miss out on a sleepover at her friends. Just let the Mum know quietly about your daughter’s little quirk. Your daughter will love you for it

  • Personally, sleepovers are a great fear of mine. Please make sure you are comfortable with the family.
With regards to bed wetting. I suggest you advise the parent and send nappy pants. I’m sure these can be put on discreetly without it being known by other kids.

  • I was a bed wetter, up until age 12. No way would I want to have or go on sleepovers. I went on a school camp in grade seven and was stressed the whole time in case I wet the bed. Thankfully it didn’t happen. Kids don’t forget these things, it could always be there to haunt her if she wets the bed. I wet my pants in grade one, I bump into people from school nearly 50 years later who still remember that
