Hello!

We just got rid of my son’s dummy at 2yrs 8mths which he was quite attached too.
He only asked for it once or twice and that was it. He now however seems to be dropping his day nap. With the dummy he was sleeping fine at night but now he is waking more frequently – he doesn’t ask for it but is crying needing cuddles.
Is this just a phase or suggestions to get him to sleep through again?

  • Oh man that sounds frustrating. I’m wanting to get rid of my baby’s dummy but I’m just not ready yet. She’s nearly 2 and only uses it for naps. Have you tried giving them a comforter, soft toy or similar to replace the dummy?

  • I have no advice but I’m wanting to ditch my 16 month olds dummy. I hate it, I wish I never gave it to her.

  • Looks like a some stage… if she needs cuddles you cant do anything about it. Good luck…

  • It seems like a phase, provide reassurance before bed and try not to start bad habits during this time.

  • I suspect it’s a phase – could you offer him a soft toy to sleep with? It might help.

  • Yes, sounds like it’s just a phase. Soft light, light music and maybe a very special soft toy to replace the dummy could help.

  • it is definitely a phase and a pretty common age to ditch the sleep.. but gosh it hurts the mumma-tiredness!
