Hello!

We all know friends are important, and being one is too, but as school and work and years slip by old friends often become more distant, and new ones harder and harder to find as life revolves more and more around home and kids. Who are your friends – those ones you could call when something HUGE happens – and where do you know them from?

  • My closest friends are from my school days.

  • I lived in the Netherlands till I was 38yrs and have still some good friends there. But I only get to see them when I travel to the Netherlands and only with 2 of them I actively chat on WhatsApp. We lived in Northern Ireland for 8yrs, we have some friends there but not really close. We live in Australia for 11 years from which 10 years in Sydney and for 1 year now in Brisbane. I had some lovely friends in Sydney who I now dearly miss, I still phone and chat with 3, of them but not seeing them creates distance. I can’t say I’ve friends in Brisbane yet. It takes time and our life is pretty busy. I experienced in Sydney my neighbour was my best friend. We would often catch up at the end of the afternoon with a glass of wine and some nuts. When I would feel down, worried or excited about something I would pop in and share. And she was the type of person I could go to in the middle of the night when there was an emergency

  • i have known my best friend since we were in primary school. our partner’s are cousins and so we spend a bit of time all together because they are close as well. i have a friend from my last job that i dont see that often, and 1 or 2 friends at my current job but only 1 that i see regularly outside of work. i dont have a lot of friends but i think its quality of quantity!

  • I have friends from many walks of life and love the variety.

  • I have a couple of really good friends met through other people or my kids.

  • Most of mine are from my husband’s work. I still have one very close friend from school

  • I’m one of those people that have managed to spend their life with their best friend. So I tell him everything… but for the girlie stuff my sisters!

  • I have only a small number of people I call friends. Some are Mums of the children i cared for while i worked at a childcare, some a from my daughters school and the one is a wonderful lady I helped train up to become a childcare worker herself.
As an adult it is really hard to make friends.

  • I’m really lucky to still be in touch with friends that I grew up with – some I’ve practically known since birth. Although we may not see each other that much – we still have wonderful friendships and are there for each other. I’ve also been lucky to made and maintain friendships through work and now new friends from school where my kids go. As they’re local and we see each other a lot I’m lucky that I have several of them too that I can lean on. But for the BIG things – there’s nothing like those old friends that know me inside out.
