Hello!

My baby is almost a year old but he refuses to hold his bottle to drink and is still insisting on up to 5 bottles a day. I cannot get him to sleep more than 1/2 an hour during the day either. Have I done something wrong by letting him get away with this for so long or is this normal

  • Is he eating some solids as well? If he is, then I don’t think you should worry about the bottle. Making you hold the bottle is probably a comfort thing, and while you haven’t done anything wrong, you might want to break that habit.

  • I would speak with a health care nurse for advice.

  • Mine did that too. I hold it for her with her hands clasped until she finally did it on her own. =)

  • …. more time for cuddles, and another reason to not do the housework ;)

  • I bought a plastic ball with handles that the bottle fitted in and found it encourage daughter to hold on her own

  • I suggest you discuss this with your GP; they can best advise you on the development of your child.

  • Every child develops at different ages and stages, the best person to discuss any concerns you may have is with your GP or child health nurse; stress never solved anything, write it down and follow it up!

  • I find my son always wants his bottle – particularly if he sees it but I just started to replace his bottle with a sippy cup and also finger foods. If he doesn’t see his bottle he doesn’t want it as much.

  • You should have a chat to your GP and child health nurse, every child is different !

  • all babies are different , dont stress that only makes things worse

  • Don’t worry to much all babies are different and when his ready he’ll let you know and maybe suggest a bottle strap for the bottle.

  • you could seek help from your midwife. I would not worry 2 much.

  • it can be normal. there is no particular RULE with baby’s drinking habit. But you should see a midwife and ask for advice so you can get mroe rest

  • there are some good comments here

  • maybe just give him the bottle and dont hold it for him he will drink it and hold it when his hungry enough
