Hello!

Are steam mops good? I would like some advice from other mums about steam mops/cleaners. I have a 2.5 year old, a spinal injury and expecting our second child. Are they as easy and good as they make them seem? Is there a low cost one that is good? I want to cut down on chemical user and cost, plus need cleaning to be quick and no scrubbing with my back, also something that hopefully dries quicker than the mop n bucket. Also wondering if it really is good for deoderising carpets. We live in a rental with horrible carpets after they had cats indoors and has a staleness to it and being a clean freak its really bugging me. Thanks!

  • Ive been steam moping for years now and i would never go back to a mop. Especially if u have light tiles the steam gets all the old grime out

  • I never had any luck with our steam mop. I liked the theory of how it cleaned but was always disappointed in the results. It was a pain dragging the cord around, and being a large home, I’d go through all three covers or I’d leave dirty streaks behind. It also started to leave water puddles behind. I can’t remember the brand I had, but I was actually relieved when it broke and I’ve gone back to my bucket and mop.

  • I think they are a great idea,I don’t have one but would like to buy one.

  • Great! Really interesting comments read on this!

  • I personally don’t like mine, you don’t get that clean feel or smell.

  • yes but you need to invest in a good one

  • I have a great Bissell one and would not be without it worth the money I paid

  • They do leave your floor a lot cleaner without all the grime & residue. The downside I found was having to use electricity, waiting for it to heat up before use, keeping toddlers away from steam burns, and ours has a power cord so having to move it to different power points can be a pain. I usually end up reverting to my old school mop, and clean the floors with hot water & vinegar.

  • I think it really depends on how much you are willing to spend on a good one

  • I’d love one as they seem to work really well on the ads on TV, but I have floorboards and aren’t sure if it would be good long term to use steam on wood. Have others with floorboards used steam mops?

  • there are some good comments here

  • I bought a steam mop and it left my floor soaked!

  • Some good advice there below.

  • I had a cheap one that came free with my vacuum and it was terrible. I think it was just that one – and it was hopeless on my textured tiles at our entry way.

  • Did you end up getting a steam mop?
