Hello!

My daughter is 9 months old and is a very happy smiley baby she babbles and sings and says dada, hello and a few other words but she has suddenly started this random high pitch scream/squeal which she seems to have no cause for. She will smile at you after she does it and is still happy, so there seems to be no cause for it- its just completely random. We have tried ignoring and discouraging it but its not working. Has anyone else experienced this? Will she grow out of it? Any advice would be great :)

  • Our daughter did the same thing, we just ignored the fact she did it and tried to occupy her doing something else and eventually she grew out of it

  • yes babysitting happened too me, I screamed back, she laughed and I felt free. Good to let out expressions in right time and place, the amazement on bub’s face was great to see. Just a thought try it and see.! Big learning time at this age trying on different styles is just another stage. You say that then she is OK so feel do not worry it can be upsetting I agree

  • Going through this now – ear piercing screams! What worked?

  • that’s cute! she is trying to play and get your attention!

  • hopefully she will just grow out of it and it is harmless, especially if she just smiles afterwards. if she wasn’t smiling after I would suggest maybe she gets earaches or something, but hopefully it’s just a phase of finding her voice and it will stop soon.

  • If say it is likely a phase. Keep an eye on it though and seek clarification if you need via MCHN.

  • She’ll grow out of it. It’s just a new trick she’s learnt.

  • I think it sounds like baby is just finding her voice! Pretty normal, it will pass!

  • there are some good comments here

  • might just need to let her for awhile or try something else like when she does it see if she can sing or something just so shes not screaming

  • I agree that she is experimenting with her voice as she is happy afterwards. Introduce her to music and playing with sounds, perhaps singing songs to her,

  • Thanks for sharing your story :)

  • i hope you found some answers

  • My son did this, they are just experimenting with their voices she should move on to something else soon!

  • I think she is just exploring and being playful…
