Hello!

I LIVE in a housing complex and the amount of stray cats just roaming around is just ridiculous. Constant peeing on my door and car. How or is there a way to deter them from doing this

  • I’d be complaining to the housing complex managers or the council. It’s an awful smell.

  • Lodge a complaint to Council, they may be able to provide a trap to catch the stray and take to pound. They dislike the smell of cloudy amonia, I put that onto a cloth, wipe fence and gates, and leave a soaked rag in the garden where they have decide to rest. Nothing worse than stray cats and trying to deter them can be frustrating, good luck.

  • Soak a rag with Amomia they don’t like the smell and the other day I sprayed some white vinegar and eucalyptus with water with small amount of water and sprayed my whole verandah as it stunk of cat urine.

  • I would contact a few local cat rescue groups and see what their advise is, They might be able to rehome them. Be warned the RSPCA will put them down so I wouldn’t try them.

  • I agree to call local council or something it’s so frustrating

  • I was told to spray vinegar around the door once when I had a cat peed on my fly door. I know it never happened again so hoping that is what stopped it.
Also my grandmother used ammonia as she had cats peeing on her front verandah.
You just have to try and see what works.
We have to pay for a trap from our shire which I said it’s not my cat and I don’t think I should have to pay, so watch out for that.

  • Call your local RSPCA or council and see what they can do to help these poor animals. They might be able to catch them but unfortunately they will be most likely put down if they are to feral

  • Call your local council ask for animal control to come out and visit with you. Point out the problem take photo’s of the different cats. They will put out cat cages and catch them. I think RSPCA will also come out looking for strays.

  • There is an orange spray that you can get in the supermarket. That may work. Good luck, it sounds like an awful problem.

  • there are sprays you can get to remove the urine smells to stop them remarking their territory and some to try to keep the away altogether. Don’t use bleach as it encourages them to pee as it has the same smells as the urine stains. Call the ranger and see if they can help by trapping and rehoming, maybe speak to your neighbours to see if anyone is feeding them to see if that is why they are hanging around

  • Also; it might be a good idea to get information or have a conversation with animal organisations about the cats.

  • Errghh how horrible!! I hate cats! I’ve heard if you scatter fresh orange or lemon peels around the yard, or spray areas with a citrus-scented fragrance as they hate citrus smells. Just googled as well and Coffee grounds, citronella, eucalyptus and lavender are also not pleasant to cats

  • I would experiment with different smelling options, a few good suggestions below, and see which one works best. Or just use all of them together for the biggest effect

  • Shaking pepper around the areas you don’t want pee or poo on generally works but I don’t think it will deter the wandering around. It might be worth a go though.

  • i believe that councils can set up traps for stray cats and move them on.
