Hello!

I am using the same product I always use, why sometimes I am allergic to sunscreen and sometimes not, and what kind of product should I choose to be aware of this problem?

  • My boys have eczema. I buy a sunscreen specifically for sensitive skin because one of them will feel like their skin is on fire, while the other only seems to have a reaction when his skin is already inflamed by other triggers. I can’t recommend a particular brand as I have swapped over time – I look for the highest SPF rating and “suitable for sensitive skin” and cross my fingers.

  • Really interesting question – my dad is highly allergic (causes itchy and lumpy rash) – we have to careful not to touch him when we have sunscreen on. Long loose clothing and hats are required by him.

My daughter finds some brands make her skin “uncomfortable”. We find Banana Boat and some of the Cancer Council products good.

Love the idea of keeping ingredient/percentage lists for reference.

  • I am the same and have no idea why. It is so annoying

  • wow i had never been made aware that people could even be allergic to sunscreen. wow i hope that you can find a solution to this.

  • Some brands change their ingredients or just the %s. I know a lady who has to keep the packaging and check the ingredients each time she buys another one. This has been happening ever since she was a young child and it drove her Mum to distraction.
An 8 year old relative of mine is allergic to one particular brand. It was applied because they were going out on a warm day, but the plans were cancelled so they stayed inside.
Within a few hours her skin where it had been applied was as red and looked as though it might blister. It was also incredibly itchy. Her parents suspected it was an allergy but took her to the Dr. to ensure the correct treatment was used and confirm it wasn’t anything else at all. He Mum took photos of it to show the school to ensure that brand was never applied. None of the rest of the family had a reaction to it.
