Hello!

I am wondering if it was worth getting my 6 month old son into swimming lessons yet or is he too young? Are they a waste of money at this stage? What is the best age to start??

  • We waited till 1.5 and in summer. Kids love it now. Don’t start when you start childcare as there always sick so before or after

  • I think it’s a good idea

  • My grandchildren went and they were so smart and they were good and enjoyed it and I was so surprised so it is worth doing it for their safety.

  • The sooner the better but some children would be too traumatised so it also depends on the child.

  • The earlier the better as far a short I’m concerned. Drownings are way too high here in Oz and swimming is such a big part of life. Good luck

  • I started my son when he was 18 months and he loves the water. Depends on the child though. Maybe do a trial lesson and see how your baby goes.

  • It’s more orientation at 6 months and up until they can follow instructions. Mine started at 2years 1year and the next wil start at 11momths(just cause it’s summer) I think the later you start the more hesitant they are to put their heads under but they all get there in the end!

  • My daughter started at 6 months. She loved it. I do think it’s important to develop some of the survival skills around water. It taught her to try to grab on someone or try to grab “something” to get her head out of the water. She is now 2,5 and is in a class where I don’t have to come with her. The baby classes are also a nice way to do an activity with your little one :)

  • At swiimming Ive seen baby classes. They are a joy to watch. The teachers are excellent and I encorage it.

  • I think so! Both of my children can swim and as I remember we put them into swimming lessons when they were babies. Its confidence building for them .

  • I started later with my daughter, she was around 3 and a half years old. But I think that the sooner the better.

  • I put both my children into 6months swimming lessons and it really help them to be confident, excited and safe around water.
