Hello!

How do I tell people I don’t want another child? – My DD is 15 months old, and people have started asking when we are having another. The thing is we have decided not to have another baby and I feel like I have to justify this to everyone who asks! What ways have people found to tell people this without the endless “oh but your daughter needs to have a sibling” thrown back at you!

  • To be honest I find the question when you will have another child rather intrusive. In my opinion you don’t have to give a serious answer to that and you could simply do it off with “God knows”

  • Forget about what other people will say. You’ve made a decision and it’s no one’s else’s business for you to explain it to them. Can always say “if it happens, it happens”.

  • ARGH – its none of ANY ones business! I am so sick of people feeling entitled to ask stupid questions like when people are having babies! I feel for you. We got this one as well. It kinda depends on how rude you want to get with your response. Whether you want to respond with (when are you? Have you tried pushing a watermelon out of the size of a lemon? to one is enough for us.) I wish you luck,

  • Just say it. If they ask, answer truthfully and honestly. It’s none of their business how many kids you do or don’t want

  • **Thanks

  • hanks for posting this perspective.

  • My husband and I went through this and it was easy to look people in the eye and say “We’re happy with one.” When they retorted with, “But, she needs a sibling.”, we replied cheerily “No, she doesn’t”. When they said “But, she’ll be lonely.” We replied “No, she wont.” When they said “You can’t stop at one.” Our reply “Yes, we can.” People soon stopped asking.

  • Just tell them you’re happy with one :) who cares about any judgements just ignore them

  • Its non of anyone’s business to question your decision. People will always judge no matter what you do. Good luck with your DD

  • Simply stand your ground and tell them. I don’t want to have any more children. If they’re close to and you wish to explain more, then do. But really it’s no ones business but yours and your husbands

  • Yes! Just tell people it’s not their business for sure!

  • Politely reply you and your partner had discussed this and both decided one was enough. This may change in the future, it’s unlikely though, and yours perfectly happy with what you’re lucky to have

  • Just tell people it’s not their business!

  • Just tell them all mums feel judged for one thing or another try not to let it effect you

  • hope you go well with it. just say that it is un decided right now, if you don’t want to explain
