Hello!

My son starts Kindy in 2015, my daughter is in primary. I don’t work (I am trying to get work though) and I study part time. However, as I have taken the summer break off from studying and don’t start again till March, I am starting to worry that I will get really bored! When I get bored I eat and I really am terrified of this as I have worked so hard this year to lose over 12 kgs and right know am feeling great! I think I need something to keep me busy for the next couple of months but have no idea what to do! Any help from mums out there would be greatly appreciated!

  • Are there any hobbies you put on hold whilst caring for your kids that you could get back into? Well done on losing weight!

  • I see this is an old question. How did you get along after you son started school ?

  • To be honest I fantasise about being “bored” lol. I often get up at 5am just to have an hour to myself.
Anyway, that’s probably not helpful haha, so, firstly congrats on losing 12kg – that’s amazing. Well done. I’m not sure what you did to lose it but if you are feeling great maybe you could use the spare time to keep it going – join a walking club, gym or sporting group? I’m not sure what your interests are but there’s lots of different groups out there to keep you motivated. Also what about hobbies? Do you like painting? drawing? craft. Have a look in your local paper or go to your library and see what’s available. I’m sure the time will absolutely fly by – whatever you do – enjoy it!

  • I have no idea how anyone has time to get bored! Read a book, plan an exercise program, enrol in a “just for fun” class.

  • You have two kids, I cannot imagine you ever being bored.

  • Joining a gym might help with the boredom.

  • Looking at the date of your post, Christmas holidays should have been keeping you busy with the kids. When they return to school, you could start preparing yourself for your study. By doing reading and research. I feel your pain concerning eating when bored. Take yourself out for a walk around the neighbourhood

  • Read, clean, catch up with a friend, watch a movie.

  • Reading. Library visits are great. Meet up with friends. Take up study, on line or at TAFE. Time to do what you really want to. So many courses to choose from, it’s great

  • I hope you made it through!

  • sign up for online survey sites. keeps you busy and you can make a few $$$ at the same time. also make sure you go for a walk every single day. good for body and mind

  • Definitely I agree start comping! It’s a great way to use up your time – sometimes you win some stuff – sometimes you don’t but it’s fun to try (at least for me)

  • I had a government job once. I was so bored I could have thrown myself out the window. However I used my time productively and started learning about competition websites and how to write tie-breakers. Now I earn so much from comps it’s a side income!

  • Drink water have water bottles in the fridge and everytime you idly go to the fridge or pantry drink water instead

  • You could help the Kindy classes by reading with the kids, or help in the school canteen. Revise your study work or take up a hobby. Volunteer at a local hospital or nursing home, that is very rewarding. Though the day goes quickly, there is not much time to be bored.
