Hello!

I have two totally different children. a 7 year old girl whos really bright, got the beauty, very active and along the way she can be a lil bit of a bitch such as lowering my son’s self esteem and can be real nasty to my son. my son whos 9 has very low self esteem, confidence level is low and loves his ipad.
im having trouble to find an active sport for my son to like as hes more of a geek and would prefer to be near me as hes got separation anxiety since he was a toddler.
Christmas is coming up and im lost for what to get them. they pretty much have everything if they use their imagination.
ive thought of a ‘try list’ for my children to see what they would like to try…such as my daughter said surfing skating soccer football and tennis. my son hasn’t said anything.
is there worth having a try list or just let the kids tell you what they would like to try in their own time?
should I give my son the push or just let him be as he might change down the track?
what should I do, what advice do you have?

  • Your son is no less valid because he is not social. Your daughter does not have more value because she plays sport. Love them both. Do not force him to play sport and socialise – he already does at school.

  • I think you should do things as a family that he might like – for example, go hiking, explore new areas, visit museums, hire a court and play tennis. If you’re in Sydney I believe there are free encoding classes for children who love technology.

  • let him come to you. just be there for him! spend some quality time with him and help empower him. don’t let the sibling push him around. try to perk him up.
