Any tips for fussy eaters? I’ve tried cutting out grazing. If I give her something that’s not sausages or meatballs she throws it on the floor. Any tips for getting toddlers to try new foods?

  • I do like the comment grate vegetables and mix with the meat! Sounds good!


  • If she likes meatballs awesome! Just hide stuff in them!!


  • I would give her the new foods to graze on, not at meal times. Less stress that way. If she doesn’t want it let it be. But don’t forget to offer it to her again a few days later. Kids sometimes need to see and try food over 10 times before they accept it.
    Another thing try feeding them a rainbow with a few new foods in it. Kids love it when you make it fun.


  • Have set meal times, put in high chair or if bigger sit at table, don’t offer foods they like if they didn’t eat their meal, eat small amounts regularly (brekkie, Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner), allow exploration of food – messy play, be consistent!!!!


  • Make chicken mince meat balls and chicken breast strips with a peanut butter sauce. Just heat up a spoonful of peanut better and roll the chicken mince meat balls and chicken breast strips in the sauce. Place on a different plate and put on the table with sliced salad like sticks of carrot and cucumber. Or put a beach blanket on the floor and have a picnic. Serve the food on paper plates. This also conditions the kids to picnic food. I would make chicken and mayonnaise sandwiches cut in triangles and some egg and mayo and pop these in a lunch box and have these outside on the grass at lunchtime. I would condition my children to new food by serving it up in different ways. Kids love finger food and they need to learn how to eat soup and stews so make these and serve these at lunch time when you have time to teach them all about what they are eating. Play with them by using real food. Play cooking games. Make a stove out of a cardboard box. Give her a saucepan and tip real food in it let her mix it and serve it and eat it. Praise her and tell her her food is yummy. Do this often kids like to try new things like cooking like Mummy. My kids loved to eat what we were eating we never made ‘kiddy food’ so they are great eaters. I never stuck to one thing that the child liked as you have made it hard for you. Your toddler will eat if she is hungry. (Maybe throw a tanty but that will pass.)

  • try some little stars and that with making sandwiches, and with food even make it a game, i do that with my kids


  • Offer new foods on a seperate plate. You may have to offer the same new food several times. Encourage her to try it and let her know it’s ok if she doesn’t eat it.
    I know it’s frustrating


  • i know, it is a battle hey! try to make food fun. Focus on that vs making her eat. Make smily faces on things. Make star pancakes. Set up a table and let her decorate cupcakes etc. There are great kids recipes on here. Try to disguise healthy food in “fun” treats. Carrot cake etc. Let her help make sandwiches. Give her 2 or 3 choices for what she would like to eat. We can have spag bol, lasagna or stir fry and she can pick. Let her help to her ability and age. When she does try something new, celebrate! Gradually introduce new foods to her and try and try and try them and then move on. If she WILL NOT eat her carrots, give it a break, try a new food and come back to it later. Get her to pick out the best looking apples at the shop etc


  • Maybe with meatballs and sausages try a dipping sauce with them like hamish or gaggic…
    I have a toddler myself he throws food on the floor if he doesn’t like it and he throws food on the floor when he is full but the dipping sauce does help him eat because it’s more flavour and tasty. Good luck


  • Only idea I can give you is to make vegetable meatballs (grate vegetables and mix with the meat), vegetable sausages etc?
