Hello!

Our 10 month old has slept with me since birth due to acid reflux.
His reflux is no longer an issue, and I would love to move him into his cot, but he isn’t having it.
Any suggestions on making this a smooth (as possible) transition?

  • I still think kids need car seat harnesses built into mattresses.

  • Never had to experience so this is not based on tested methods! I would transition. Perhaps let him fall asleep in your bed and move him when asleep. Pre-warm (and I mean warm not hot!!) his spot in the cot with a hot water bottle. When he wakes go in and just place a hand in his face and sush him back to sleep. Another alternative is get into the cot with him(check weight restrictions of the cot first!) but I know a mother that use to lay in with her baby to help in this situation. Lots of playing in his room and even in the actual cot. Make it a fun place! If I was in your position id start with day sleeps, once mastered then move to night sleeps. You are going to have to be consistent and not give in especially when you are tired and as easy as t may be, stay strong!

  • Some really good suggestions here. Just be consistent and gentle to both of yourselves. You will get there eventually.

  • being a grandma sitter to 9 grandkids associate bed time with a good experience such as a massage ,book reading /very quiet song and lie in the room with him do not remove him from cot just persist and it will come maybe take longer as you have left it a long time to introduce the new idea .good luck will pay off. all my grandkids slept with parents and i had no trouble at rest time in our cot when babysitting. which ever idea u use stick with the same idea.

  • Always put bub to bed in their cot, even if they only last a short amount of time, have a comforter in there, whether you lay on the sheet so they can smell you too? Or a teddy etc. Things like this so they feel safe.

  • Try day sleeps in the cot to get him used to it then once he’s happy with that start putting him in there at night

  • My first born son had issues when I first brought him home he slept with me also I started during the day introducing him to his cot added my T-shirt in there it smelt like me so in the end he relaxed and ended up sleeping easily after 2 horrible and tiring weeks goodluck x

  • Slowly! He’s so used to being with you for the last 10 months, it will take time to get him used to a bed by himself. Just keep putting him in there, he will gradually come round to accepting it

  • Can you try putting him in there for his daytime naps to begin with?
