Hello!

“I’m having trouble getting water into my bub…he’ll be 6 months old next week & is currently teething….are these two problems related in anyone’s experience…he normally has 30-60mLs (with his meals) and 6 feeds a day” Do you have any tips on getting a baby to drink water?

  • It’s only advised to give a baby small amounts of water in a sippy cup as to much water can be harmful.

  • As long as he’s hydrated, at this age I wouldn’t worry about water too much. Babies get some from milk, food etc. Keep offering, but also offer fresh juicy veggies and fruit.

  • Persistence! Make sure the zippy cup is age appropriate and offer it during meal times and randomly throughout the day. Formula/breast milk I believebis still the mail sauce of liquid/food until about 8months old.

  • Are you boiling the water, then cooling it?
If you aren’t using filtered water, in some areas the water doesn’t taste that great.

  • If he is already drinking the recommended amount of milk, then only offer water at the in between times. If they know something “nicer” is coming if they don’t drink it, they will hold out till it comes.

  • At that age I think he’s drinking plenty.

  • At this age if he is drinking milk then I wouldn’t worry too much about the water.

  • Try slightly warm water so not to cold or abrupt in mouth. Little amounts is successful.

  • What you are doing currently is great! If it is summer try offering before a bottle even just an extra 10mls etc. :)

  • he is probably ok! water isn’t a priority unless he’s sick or it’s extremely hot

  • Whilst milk is the main food he shouldn’t need water as well. He is probably wanting the more calorie rich drinks rather than filling up on water

  • drinking water is not too important right now. If he is thristy, milk is the answer

  • I started by letting her suck on a washer that I dampened with the filtered water I fill her bottles with. Then I would let her try and drink a little bit of water from one of her bottles. It took a while, she would dribble a lot of it out. But now she takes a sippy cup after each solid meal. Helps her stay regular and hydrated in this awful heat!

  • It’s hard getting them started but you just need to persist.

  • Mine like water as long as it was cold.
