“I’m having trouble getting water into my bub…he’ll be 6 months old next week & is currently teething….are these two problems related in anyone’s experience…he normally has 30-60mLs (with his meals) and 6 feeds a day” Do you have any tips on getting a baby to drink water?

  • I didn’t ever give water to any of my 5 babies at this age. Milk was enough. I only offered water when they started to self-feed – at about 10 months. Then I only had a sippy cup at meal times. It was not until after they dropped a number of milk feeds that they had any interest in other drinks.

  • You don’t really need to give water at that age unless its really hot weather. All the water they need is in the breastmilk/formula. Well this is what I was advised with both my children from health nurse.

  • I agree with the slice of orange I’ve even put a little bit of watermelon in aswell minus the pips

  • My little girl (now 19 months) used to refuse to drink water but I put a piece of orange in her water bottle/sippy cup to give it a bit of flavour (without it being full of sugar etc from normal juices) & over time I put smaller pieces in until it was nothing & she loved it. She now drinks pretty much only water (plain) 2-3 bottles a day & asks me for more all the time. She doesn’t however drink milk or if she tries it she tends to throw it up.

  • Sorry I can’t help – my lil one only started drinking water after starting childcare at 2 and bub number 2 who will be 2 in a few weeks will go all day without a drink rather than drink plain milk or water :(
