  • Have you seen a speech or OT? I would make sure they are tiny pieces to avoid this

  • I’d cut things up smaller and just keep reminding her to chew.

  • They are sometimes in such a hurry and are very busy, they don’t like to stop to chew, just cut things up smaller and when she is older give her a treat if she can chew here food so many time before swallowing.

  • My youngest of the twins does that and we have to chop her food up finely so she doesn’t choke

  • My son does something similar. He stuffs his mouth full of food until there’s no room to spare then slowly works his way through it swallowing/ chewing a little. He’s almost 3 but has been doing it for about a year. I’m surprised he hasn’t choked yet! I’ve found what slows him down is to sit with him and eat slowly, let him see that I take my time and chew eat bite before putting another piece into my mouth. I also still cut his food into small bite-sized pieces.

  • My daughter has just started chewing at 29 months we had to sit with her and teach her how to chew by showing what we did when we ate. A game we played that helped for us and her as you could sit there for an hour. Was “how does a tiger chew chomp chomp chomp” and acting with your mouth. Then going through all the animals or people you can think off.

  • My son just inhales without chewing from spaghetti to wheat bix. Pretty much never chews. Doesn’t matter how small I cut or chew on front of him. We have tried it all. Games counting and all. Nothing has changed

  • My son does this.. he is 14mnths and LOVES his food.. he hasnt any other but his front lot so everything is half chewed… he wont eat meat and i only give him veggies that can become mushy… but he does it with everything even bananas i jist have to keep an eye on him and give him small amounts at a time…

  • Try making a game out of it? When she’s eating, you eat too, and with something soft to start do exaggerated ‘nom nom’ chewing action? Get her to copy you and maybe she’ll realize that chewing is a good thing? I have not had this problem, I just try to think what I would do if it were my bub……

  • My 18 month old does this. It can be scary sometimes and I’ve found I have to cut his food into small pieces to stop him from chocking. He loves his food and just wants to eat it as fast as possible. We have tried feeding him more regularly thinking maybe he was really hungry , that’s why he was scoffing his food but he still does it.

  • Our son does chew most of his food but sometimes get impatient or distracted and tries to swallow without chewing his food up properly. For this reason we still cut sausages up very small, grapes are cut in half, apple in thin slices etc etc. pretty much anything that would have been considered a choking hazard when he was younger still gets chopped up.

  • cut her food up more. Watch her, eat with her and try not to rush the meal time. We just need to slow down a bit sometimes. Remember they are little ones babies that need to be taught, not small adults.

  • Mine does this and has an officsl swallow issue and sensory issues to. But he has been declared safe on foods but not runny liquid yet, we have to sit with him and say chew chew while counting fingers up to 5 or more. We still have to mash or slice his foods into smaller bits that will go straight down safely if not swallowed. He gets too lazy cheeing meat and vegies so wont eat them now. Steamed chicken and veggies are easier to chew but we found the chicken had to be cut smaller.

  • Chop her food smaler an only put a small amount on her plate an ljust keep adding small amount till she full

  • chew in front of the child. Eat where they can see you. Take bites together, make it a game.
