Toilet training. My little girl turned 2 last Monday and she decided that she wanted to use the potty not one accident the next 3 days the same thing but from Friday she hasn’t wanted to use the potty or toilet will just wee and poo wherever she is I have tried the rewards and encouragement I ask all the time. Do I persist or give up ? I find myself becoming a little stressed and I think it will end up having a negative effect. I would appreciate that thanks everyone

  • Same thing happened with mine. I would go back to nappy pants and try again in a month time. Thats what i did and at 2 1/2 years she was dry and a few months later dry through the night. The little one is ready and wants to use a potty or maybe she like to go straight on the toilet. Also favorite character underwear helps. Good luck!

  • we are trying to toilet train my son who is almost 3.5 and has no interest at all, so we have rewards or stamps and lollies or food in general (which ever is his favourite at the time) and we have a kitchen timer we set and when it goes off it is time to try for wees, we started at an hour but we were missing the wees so changed it to 45 minutes and went better but he has no interest what so ever, like hitting my head against a brick wall

  • Keep going, and she will eventually get the hang of it

  • I hope you persisted and she is managing well.

  • This happened to me with my son, try not to get too frustrated, she will eventually surprise you and get the hang of it all of a sudden. Hang in there.

  • I hope it all goes well for you. She’ll be toilet trained before you know it

  • I’ve had setbacks with both my kids while toilet training. I like to let them set the pace. Don’t push her, but encourage her. It can be stressful, but just know that it’ll only be for a short time and she’ll be toilet trained before you know it. A-Edwards, there is no ‘best age’ to start, all kids are different and learn at different paces. I know kids who were toilet trained before the age of 2. Some learn quickly, others take a bit more time.

  • Persist for sure. But best age to start is at 2.5 . Must b a smart child

  • I would suggest explaining to her that she needs to decide if she wants to use the potty or not, and encourage her to stick with it if she does

  • I started at 18 months with my daughter then stopped and started again when she was 2.5 years and never looked back

  • Have you tried the pull ups that let them feel when their wet ?

  • Have you thought of a diff potty?? I used a dino potty for my kids after the normal one failed

  • Glad to have found this post. My son is only 19 months at the moment, so have’t started training, but good to hear about other’s experiences so I too will know what to expect and what is quite normal.

  • Keep asking her though and tell her there is a reward is she does use the potty.

  • this sounds normal! she may take quite a few months for it to click in her brain what is happening and what to do
