Hello!

I’m having some problems with my 3 yo daughter’s toilet training. She’s been successfully wearing undies and doing all her wees during the day in the toilet for some months now. I can’t get her to do her poo in the toilet though. She knows she needs to go but instead of going to the toilet she disappears off to her bedroom and hides in the corner. We had a couple of successes about a month ago but since then nothing. I keep reminding her that poo goes in the toilet, she apologises and tells me she’ll do it next time, we’ve got rewards for success (which she’s so excited about but she’s only got 2!!). I’m getting beyond frustrated. Do you have any toilet training tips?

  • Does she have a routine of a specific time of day she needs to use her bowls maybe take her to pick out a really nice pack of undies and say to her that if she does a poo in them that they have to go in the bin and she won’t have them anymore. Could also be a fear thing of sitting on the toilet for longer periods of time. Make sure that the kids seat is extremely stable on the toilet seat even a little shift can scare them or alternatively maybe encourage her to do a poo in the potty for now and then work on the toilet? Goodluck

  • This is the hard part in toddler training I think , bedsides cot training . My kids started on potties and few times even missed it ! . its all fun and games and I think it is just patience and perserverence to the routine , which parents will surely run out . In the meantime keep going with it as it will work out sooner than you think .

  • My daughter was so much harder to toilet train than my son, I don’t know why! Wishing you the best of luck!

  • If she does her poo around the same time each day you can always pop her on the toilet at that time and see how she goes. Stay with her and even read a book – that might take the pressure off a bit. As frustrating as it is, try not to put too much stress on her about it. She WILL get there, it might just take a little extra time. Good luck and hang in there xx

  • I found with all my 8 children if i put them on the potty after brekkie every morning they soon got the hang of it

  • She’ll get the hang of it eventually. Toilet training is something you just need to persist with!

  • she is on the right path saying sorry, she will start before you know it. ask her whenever she goes if she needs poo also

  • Repetition and once you say no to nappies stick to it!

  • Some good advice – I am looking at starting toilet training so very helpful

  • i hope it has worked out

  • Hope you managed to find the answer you were looking for.

  • Give her time, she will eventually get it

  • Hope you found some toilet training tips useful

  • We use the kindergarten to help with toilet training.

  • I found mine got better toilet habits from being around other kids – like at kinder and day care. By seeing others using the toilet.
