Hi, I am after some tips for toilet training a 2.5 year old boy!? He will do wees in the toilet but absolutely positively refuses to do a poo! I have rewards for him sitting up on the shelf that he really really wants but it just isn’t enough to persuade him to do his poos on the toilet. Any ideas would be welcomed!!

  • Time maybe is summer …let him sit in a chair outside door when you go and tell him wat ur doin…lol

  • yep boys are hard with their poos…mum of 4 boys and one of my sons in particular (he is 4) still hates pooing! He loved the colour yellow so I bought a glitter hat from safeway for a couple of bucks and every time he did a poo I did “the poo dance” haha. Basically made myself look silly and celebrated his poo going to be with all the other poos at the big poo party down the toilet! Oh the things we do as parents! Hey…it worked! He always asks me to go get the poo hat when he needs to go!

  • For some reason little boys are “attached” to their poo’s. In my experience its something they have to let go of in their own time.. Sounds strange but let him go in with Mum or Dad and make the plop noise sound fun and he may think its a good idea.

  • give him time my son is 3.5 and he still refuses to do poo on the toilet he will sit there but wont do it till he gets off the toilet

  • I have a son who is the same age, and does the same thing – I am very interested to see what advice you get!

  • At 2.5 your doing a great job, eventually he will do his poo. I found this to be normal with kiddies, it takes a bit for them to understand the poo process and how and when they need to go

  • Just be as patient as you can. They say that when kids refuse to do poos there has often been an instance where they have been a bit traumatised by something… Such as not actually having seen their poo before, or having made a mess with their poo and gotten into trouble. As frustrating as it is try your hardest to stay positive and don’t get cranky :)

  • i would just see if he does poos on the potty first.

  • try use a ping pong ball that he can aim at for wees and for poos try start him off on potty then encourage big boys toilet
