To early to toilet train? - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

My daughter is 2.5yo. We had decided it was time to start toilet training, and there were the signs you look for. A week in and we have had no success, she refuses to sit on the toilet, she just stands there and wets herself and happily takes her undies off and gets a new pair, doesn’t care about the mess. She hasn’t once had a successful trip to the toilet. Could it be too early? Should we just give up and wait a bit longer or is there something I am missing?

Maybe your little one has a fear for the toilet ? In which case I would start with the potty. Take the time for little steps. First aim is happy to sit on the potty / toillet, start with 1 moment (for example before bath) and then expand. Do not show frustration, be happy with every little step. Wishing you patience and understanding.

I would maybe put it on the back burner fir a little while and try again later. I don’t think 2.5 years old is too early, especially if she was showing signs. You could have misread the signs tho or she’s just not ready.

I think it’s never too early to toilet train. Unfortunately I didn’t get the hint and still having problems at 3yo

I agree with the ladies here. After a week, you should definitely be having SOME success. Try again in a few months.

It is never too young to start them.
