I am 55 yrs of age and I just can’t seem to start anything to be mine. E.g exercise, cooking, sewing. How does one get motivated and what hobbies do you have?

  • Gardening, Pilates just give it a go

  • Try yoga or Pilates with a friend

  • Volunteering can be a wonderful way to meet people and be exposed to new experiences and hobbies

  • I suggest doing something outdoors. Being outside in nature always makes you feel more rejuvenated, also helps keep you fit if your going for a walk around your local lake, walking track etc. gardening can be very rewarding to. I like to plant fruit and veggies that way you get to reap the benefits of all your hard work you’ve done caring and watering them.

  • I’d be reading more if I had spare time.

  • Reading can take you to places you’ve never been. Plus you can join a book club and make new friends.

  • I’m not the poster of this question, but I’m loving the comments.

  • Pretty sure when you find something you enjoy, it will be easy to stay motivated and interested

  • Fifty seven here and still have young children to help pass the time. Depending on how I feel it can be puzzles, handicrafts or reading. I like listening to music too. Getting me time is hard sometimes but it is worth it for that sense of just being you.

  • My mother is your age and since dad has passed away she loves to read travel on cruise ships. The cruise ships don’t have to be expensive she saves for 1 a year and a lady in the village travels with her. Have a goal.

  • i AM 73 YEARS YOUNG! AND GO TO ART CLASSES RUN CHEAPLY IN MY AREA, GREAT FUN AND DO NOT NEEDTO BE AN ARTIST.yOU CAN CHECK FOR DIFFERENT CLASSES AT YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTER. dEPENDS WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO. lIKE LEARNING NEW THINGS. COULD VOLUNTER AT ONE OF MANY ORGANISEATIONS. AQUAROBICS CLASSES, ALL OF THESE GET YOU MEETING NEW PEOPLE TOO. tHIS IS MASK OF MY FACE I DID AT ART GROUP

  • Forcing yourself to read /browse library books for even 15 mins a day can help you hone in on something you might get into.. maybe learning about health as you age, or just trying to work out what you like / don’t like about authors. Also if you have ever been ‘burnt out’ I think it can feel like you describe – not feeling it is worth starting anything, lacking motivation, everything seems too hard or pointless. Maybe it isn’t a bad thing to have some ‘time out’ just ‘doing nothing’ for a while and let energy levels increase. If they don’t perhaps try and find out why.

  • I love reading and gardening, they help me de-stress and get some me time.

  • Have you tried googling it? Sometimes google comes up with great advice. Try looking at things you think you might be interested in and go from there

  • Sometimes you have to try lots of different things before you find something you enjoy. There are often “come and try” classes that give people a little taste of different hobbies/sports.
